HID Conversion

(1) What is an HID?
HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. It is a bulb which is filled with gas, once the gas heats up to a certain degree, it produces a light color. The degrees are measured in Kelvin due to the fact that they are so hot. HID is the same thing as xenon lights, which are sold on many luxury cars.

(2) How does HID lighting compare to Halogen lighting?
HID light is best described as a bright-white, and is similar to natural daylight. It offers greater visibility on the road, especially at night. HID headlights are the safest headlights currently available and are now standard equipment on many upscale vehicles.

(3) Why do I have to purchase the whole kit? Why can't I just order the HID Bulbs?
Cars use a 12 Volt Electrical System for their headlights. HID systems use over 20,000 volts to ignite our Bulbs. For this process to work, with out kits we include ballasts, which allow the HID Bulbs to run without a problem. These ballasts are taking in all the necessary energy to keep the HID Bulbs running longer than your automobile.

(4) How about those so called "Xenon Blue Bulbs" which cost less than $50?
The "Xenon blue bulbs" on the market today are a cheap imitation of the HID technology. "Xenon blue bulb" systems typically use Halogen gas or a Halogen/Xenon-mixed gas that does not emit the brightness and intensity of a true HID bulb. True HID Xenon bulb MUST requires a ballast and an igniter, due to its requirement of 23,000 volts to ignite the gas discharge arc. The imitation "Xenon blue bulbs" will function without these components since they use the conventional filament to emit light. "Xenon blue bulbs" typically generate slightly brighter light than conventional halogen bulbs because they are forced to operate at higher watts.

(5) What kit do I have to purchase to have the same lights as the Mercedes?
Getting an aftermarket kit to look like an OEM Xenon Kit which is found on Mercedes and other luxury cars is not always possible. The HID lights themselves on those cars are worth upwards of $1000. The reason they come out in blue and purple colors is mainly because of the projector in the headlight. They are designed to make the color of the bulb which is a yellowish white color appear blue or purple. This is done by lightly tinting the projector and bending the light. Most aftermarket head light housings are not designed that way.

(6) Why do my lights flicker?
If your light flickers, it could be one of a couple things. Usually it is because your car is not started. It takes time for your cars ECU to adjust to the addition if higher powered lights; that's why you should have your car started in the first few weeks of the kit. Another reason, could be your fuses, many people have upgraded to 20A fuses for their headlights.

(7) Can all vehicles be converted to HID lighting?
Almost all vehicles can be converted or upgraded. Please select the make of your vehicle to check the availability of the HID conversion kit. If you have further questions, please contact us and we will promptly answer your questions.
